The 32nd Pacific Islands Environmental Training Symposium will convene in Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands, from June 9-13, 2025. This biennial meeting, sponsored by the environmental agencies of the CNMI, Guam, and American Samoa, fosters dialogue and the exchange of ideas on diverse environmental issues among participants from across the Pacific Islands. Attendees include representatives from local governments, elected officials, non-profit and community-based organizations, the private sector, professional and university researchers, and other stakeholders involved in Pacific Island environmental concerns.

The theme of this event, “Weaving Strategies to Strengthen Resilience in the Pacific,” highlights the critical need for a collaborative, integrated, and regionally relevant approach to addressing the environmental challenges facing the Pacific. This symposium emphasizes the integral nature of various strategies and the critical importance of developing the capacity of Pacific Islanders and other environmental agencies to withstand and adapt to these challenges.

The Host

The CNMI Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality – Division of Environmental Quality will host a training symposium featuring presentations, panel discussions, and hands-on sessions. The event aims to foster innovative solutions to pressing environmental challenges and strengthen regional resilience.

The Pacific Islands Environmental Training Symposium has brought together government leaders, community organizations, and environmental professionals from across the region. From virtual collaborations to in-person gatherings, the training symposium has focused on building resilience through conservation, strengthening technical capacity, and promoting environmental security. Key themes included environmental adaptation, biodiversity protection, waste management, and the use of technology to support sustainable development in island communities.

Rota Information

Nicknamed “The World’s Friendliest Island,” Rota is known for its unspoiled nature, the warmth of its people, and its relaxing and rejuvenating feeling.  Along with local delicacies like coconut crabs and sweet potatoes, the people of Rota will soon win you over with their smiles and warm hospitality.  Dive into Swimming Hole – a natural pool refreshed by sea waves – or view endemic bird species at Chenchon Bird Sanctuary.  Wedding Cake Mountain – so named for its tiers – and Tweksberry Beach are picturesque backdrops to the charming songs of local birds and stunning views.
